May 1st was the four annual  LilySarahGrace craft fair in Hollywood, California.

Coming together again at Milk Studios, in a giant space filled with talented, generous and kind volunteers, beautifully fluffy clouds, and balloons dipped in glitter, was a day created  by two friends,  Jennifer Levy and Elizabeth Goetchius.

Jenny and Elizabeth, came together to create yet another amazing light filled day, supporting Children’s Public Art Education. The idea is simple, creating art, with children, for children. There is so much love in this event, and more specifically love for art, and respect for the importance of creating beauty in our lives. Shout out to all the artists, crafters, food makers, DJs, participants and, volunteers who made such a beautiful day possible.

Lily Sarah Grace Fund raises money to create arts eduction grants for public schools all over the country. This year the space was filled with giant oragami cranes, and beautifully painted Manzanita trees that the children could hang their written wishes on ( think Yoko Ono wish trees ).

The day and the space were filled with creativity, beauty, giving and incredible generosity!

The kids had opportunities to make so many different projects, to visit, to eat great food, and get their hair done by Boyd  Tizenor !!!!

Amazing and and super fun. Jennifer Levy and Elizabeth Goetchius have organized this event each year so beautifully, and put their whole hearts into making it successful and memorable. This year Dewey Nicks did portraits on site which was fantastic addition to the experience and energy.

Karen Kimmel and Kimmel kids, Flowergirl LA, Catherine McCord of Weelicious, , Estee Stanley, Jules Blane Davis and many many others were all on site creating beautiful and fun experiences for the kids and adults who came out.

My heart was so full with the spirit of creativity and generosity that comes out in this event. I am grateful to be able to participate in what happens each year to help support this incredible foundation created by Matthew Badger to remember his three beautiful daughters, Lily, Sarah and Grace, and to remember them through all of the love and art that comes out of his foundation.

Exactly one year ago on Christmas eve, my family and I went for Christmas dinner at my friend Jenny’s house. When we arrived she had just received incredibly sad news about a horrendous  fire in the home of her friend Madonna Badger, which killed Madonna and Matthew Badger’s three daughters Lily, Sarah and Grace, in addition to Madonna’s parents who were visiting for Christmas. Vowing to do something constructive after this tragic fire Jennifer Levy came together with her friends Elizabeth Cutrona Goetchius, Jennifer Gross  and Lily, Sarah and Grace’s father Matthew Badger, and created a beautiful day of art, and community on a rainy day in Los Angeles to benefit Matthew’s foundation, the LilySarahGrace.

The mission of the LilySarahGrace fund , is “To challenge and empower teachers in underfunded elementary schools across the United States to teach their curriculum through the universal language of Art and Creativity.

I was so inspired by the energy and generosity of everyone who came together to raise money, make art and create beauty out of this terrible loss. As a mother, I can not imagine the horror and deep sorrow that Matthew and Madonna Badger have had to endure this past year after the loss of their girls. Still the creative energy and support of so many people who came together in the name of those three beautiful girls, so that other children will have the opportunity to make art and express themselves creatively takes my breath away.

If you’d like to donate to the LilySarahGrace fund, you may do so here.

Here are a few of my photographs from this beautiful day.
